Project Summary

With a ceiling height ranging from 26 to 80 feet throughout its concourses, Lucas Oil Stadium utilises numerous 24-ft (7.3-m) diameter Big Ass Fans. Lucas Oil Stadium is the home of the Indianapolis Colts and is one of the busiest stadiums year round, with highlights including NCAA Final Four events and the 2012 Super Bowl, along with various other sporting events. “When we discovered Big Ass Fans, we instantly knew we had the perfect air movement solution for the space,” explains Jonathan Kelley, lead architect for the project from HKS architectural design firm in Dallas.

In spaces with extremely large dimensions such as stadium concourses, providing a uniform temperature for visitors can be problematic. HVAC systems work harder and longer to compensate for rapid influxes of people that occur in concourse areas. Big Ass Fans move large volumes of air at a reduced first and lifecycle cost compared to other options. HKS conquered many comfort challenges by installing Big Ass Fans. "Big Ass Fans created a dynamic solution, bringing life to what was otherwise just an open volume of nothingness," says Kelley.
